Neuropathology

Neuropathology is run as an integrated NHS/University facility in the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital. Research in neuropathology reflects its position at the interface of clinical and basic neurosciences. Close collaborations exist with the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, and several groups within NDCN. Neuropathology hosts one of the largest brain tissue collections in the UK, the Thomas Willis Brain Bank, which underpins much of our work and we have set up the MRCs control brain bank. Research projects include pathology, genetics and microstructure of aging and dementia; neuropathology of movement disorders (MND, Parkinson’s disease, ataxia); pathology and genetics of multiple sclerosis; microstructure and post-mortem MRI of autism; pathology of myopathies; and the pathogenesis of glial and pituitary tumours.
